Work At Home - Some Advice and Tips
By: Alicia Washington
When you finally get a job that you can work from home, it can be pretty exciting. It may even seem like the hard part is over. You have submitted your application online, resume, cover letter, if requested, as well as completed and passed all the evaluation tests that the company may have requested of you before you begin to work from home as an independent contractor or employee. Now you can spend your time and focus on the the actual job instead of the job search.
It is one thing to get a job and quite another to keep a job. When you work from home, this is even more important because you have the freedom to work as little or as much as you want to with little to no supervision from a physical boss. Some work from home jobs give you the option to work whenever you want and others have specifc times that you are required to work.
Whatever your work schedule may be, please keep in mind that you have the right to allow yourself time for short breaks throughout the day, especially if you will be working very long hours. Make sure that your breaks aren't too long because even though you may work from home, your activity on the computer and in their system may be monitored. I would suggest taking no longer than a 15 minute break, the same as you would if you had to report to an actual company where you would work outside the home. Because of the fact that your activity online may be monitored, you would want to log off for your break and log back into the system when you are ready to begin working. If the job that you are performing from home is repetitive, you may want to use your break time to stretch a bit.
Pay close attention to the instructions that you are provided from the company for your position. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the job and what is or may be expected of you. Having good communication with your employee shows a desire on your part to fulfill your assignment and satisfy the company. You will be viewed as an asset and a trusted employee, when you work from home, if you keep these tips in mind.
